July 1, 2010 – Promoting broadband has become a top priority for policymakers hoping it will spur innovation and economic growth. How will new proposals, from the National Broadband Plan to regulatory reclassification affect broadband deployment, adoption and investment? What would be the impact of extending Universal Service Funds to broadband? Is wireless a viable substitute for wireline broadband? How will new pricing models affect the broadband ecosystem? What is the prospect for a re-write of the Communications Act? These issues will be explored at the TPI Aspen Forum discussion panel entitled “Whither Broadband Policy? The FCC, Congress, and the Courts.”

Shane Greenstein, the Elinor and Wendell Hobbs Professor of Management and Strategy at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University
Fernando Laguarda, Vice President of External Affairs and Policy Counselor for Time Warner Cable
Blair Levin, Communications and Society Fellow at the Aspen Institute and former Executive Director of the Omnibus Broadband Initiative at the Federal Communications Commission
Walter McCormick, President and CEO of the United States Telecom Association (USTelecom)
Tom Sugrue, Vice President of Government Affairs at T-Mobile
The panel discussion will follow a keynote by Thomas Tauke, Vice President of Public Affairs, Policy and Communications at Verizon. Other confirmed speakers include include Paul Otellini, President and CEO of Intel Corporation; Mark McLaughlin, President and Chief Executive Officer of VeriSign; and Brad Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer of Intuit. Edward Mueller, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Qwest Communications, will offer opening remarks at the premier policy event.
