The Technology Policy Institute (TPI) operates techpolicyinstitute.org. This policy describes the information we collect through the site, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It covers this site only. Sites we link to, including our Aspen Forum registration site, have their own policies.
Information we collect
Information you give us. When you sign up for updates, we collect your email address and any other information you choose to provide. When you donate, we collect your name, email address, phone number if provided, ZIP code, donation amount, and payment information needed to process the donation. When you register for an event or email us, we collect whatever you include, such as your name, organization, and message.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the site, our servers and the third-party tools described below record technical information, including your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, the site that referred you, and the time of your visit. Some of this comes from cookies and similar technologies placed in your browser.
How we use it
We use the information we collect to
send the updates and newsletters you asked for,
process donations, send receipts, and keep the records that tax law requires,
register you for events and respond to your messages,
understand which pages and publications people read so we can improve the site, and
protect the site against spam, abuse, and security threats.
We do not sell or rent personal information.
Cookies, analytics, and third-party services
The site uses the following outside services. Each one receives information about your visit directly from your browser and handles it under its own privacy policy.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without them.
Donations
TPI uses Gravity Forms to collect donation information and Stripe to process card payments. Payment card information is transmitted to Stripe for processing, and TPI does not store full card numbers. We keep your name, contact information, and donation history to send receipts, meet tax and accounting recordkeeping requirements, and thank you for your support. We do not publish the names of individual donors without their permission.
Sharing, retention, and security
We share personal information only with service providers that help us run the site, send email, deliver embedded media, and process donations, including Constant Contact, Gravity Forms, Stripe, SoundCloud, YouTube, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and Cloudflare, and only for those purposes. We may also disclose information when the law requires it or to protect TPI, our users, or others from fraud or harm.
We keep newsletter information until you unsubscribe. We keep donation records for as long as tax and accounting rules require. We delete or anonymize other personal information when we no longer need it.
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect the information we hold. No website or service is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time with the link at the bottom of each message. You can also ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, subject to any records we must keep by law. Email [email protected] with your request.
Children
The site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We will post any changes on this page and update the effective date at the top.
