TPI Aspen Forum Begins Sunday 2016 and Beyond: Technology Policy Challenges

The 2016 Technology Policy Institute Aspen Forum begins this Sunday, August 21 and runs through Tuesday, August 23.  TPI’s signature event will once again offer thoughtful discussion on topics impacting the information and technology industries. Videos of keynotes and discussion panels will be posted on the TPI website shortly after their conclusion.  Updates will also be posted on the TPI blog and discussion can be followed via the twitter hashtag #TPIAspen.

The Forum will begin Sunday evening with special opening remarks by TPI President Thomas Lenard, TPI Senior Fellow Scott Wallsten and TPI Board Member Raymond Gifford. Monday’s opening panel, “Innovation, Productivity and Growth: Is the Party Over?” will provide an overview of the economic environment currently facing the tech and communications industries. Other panels will cover the future of connectivity, the future of privacy, the future of digital policy in the global economy and the future of antitrust in the digital marketplace.

The Monday evening dinner speaker will be Evan Shapiro, Executive Vice President, Digital Enterprises at NBCUniversal, who will discuss entertainment audiences in a speech entitled, “Their G-G-Generations: Millennials, Plurals and Beyond.” Also speaking at this year’s Forum is Dennis Kooker, President, Global Digital Business & U.S. Sales, Sony Music Entertainment, who will discuss “Today’s Music Marketplace:  Embracing Disruption in a Highly Regulated Industry.” The Honorable Edith Ramirez, Chairwoman of the Federal Trade Commission, will give the Monday luncheon keynote address and Tuesday’s lunch will feature the author Robin Hanson, who will discuss his new book, The Age of Em – Work, Love and Life When Robots Rule the Earth.
