August 2, 2013 – Federal Trade Commission Chairwoman Edith Ramirez will be the opening day keynote luncheon speaker at this year’s TPI Aspen Forum, scheduled for August 18 – 20. In her remarks, Chairwoman Ramirez is expected to discuss the Commission’s work and role in consumer privacy issues.
Chairwoman Ramirez was sworn in as a Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission on April 5, 2010 and was designated by President Obama to serve as Chairwoman effective March 4, 2013. Prior to joining the Commission, Ramirez was a partner in the Los Angeles office of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP, and an associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, LLP in Los Angeles. She clerked for the Hon. Alfred T. Goodwin in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Ramirez graduated from Harvard Law School cum laude, where she served as an editor of the Harvard Law Review, and holds an A.B. in History magna cum laude from Harvard University. Throughout her career, Ramirez has been active in a variety of professional and community activities. Most recently, she served as the Vice President on the Board of Commissioners for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the nation’s largest municipal utility.
In addition to remarks by Chairwoman Ramirez, FTC Commissioners Julie Brill and Joshua Wright will participate in several panels. The closing luncheon will feature a conversation with the two commissioners moderated by Politico reporter Tony Romm.
The TPI Aspen Forum brings together leaders from business, government, and academia to discuss key public policy issues affecting information and communications technology. This year’s theme is, “Creative Destruction and Growth: Policy Choices.” Panel topics at the Aspen Forum include privacy, data security and trade; the Federal Communications Commission’s upcoming incentive auctions; patents and IT; and others.
