From self-driving cars to robots to the news we see on devices’ screens, policymakers find themselves faced with issues involving artificial intelligence. The rapid growth of AI creates tremendous potential opportunities to increase productivity, and therefore economic, growth, but some worry it may drastically change the size and makeup of the labor force. Others wonder about the wisdom and limits of allowing algorithms to make decisions that once rested with humans. This TPI event will discuss the economic and policy aspects of artificial intelligence, including how AI may affect policymaking itself. Susan Athey, Economics and Technology Professor at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business and a leading scholar on the use and implications of machine learning, will keynote the event. Panelists and more details will be announced soon.
