Measured growth in productivity has remained well below its post-war average since the beginning of the financial crisis. Is low economic growth a “new normal,” will we see a productivity turnaround, or are the numbers merely a statistical illusion resulting from measurement error? An all-star panel of academics will discuss this phenomenon and the possible causes and impacts during the opening session: “Innovation, Productivity and Growth: Is the Party Over?” at this year’s TPI Aspen Forum. The annual event is scheduled for August 21-23 in Aspen Colorado.

Speakers for the panel are:

Timothy Bresnahan, Landau Professor in Technology and the Economy and Professor of Economics, Stanford University

Carol Corrado, Senior Policy Scholar, Georgetown Center for Business and Public Policy and Senior Advisor and Research Director in Economics, The Conference Board

John Haltiwanger, Distinguished University Professor of Economics, University of Maryland

Chad Syverson, J. Baum Harris Professor of Economics, Booth School of Business, University of Chicago

Scott Wallsten (moderator), Vice President for Research and Senior Fellow, Technology Policy Institute

The 2016 Forum will also include panels on: The Future of Connectivity, The Future of Privacy in a World of Ubiquitous Data Collection, The Future of Digital Policy in the Global Economy, and The Future of Antitrust in the Digital Marketplace. Off-the-record afternoon workshops will cover such topics as the FCC’s set-top box rulemaking, new spectrum licensing models, and music licensing.

Register now for the TPI Aspen Forum, scheduled for August 21-23 at the St. Regis Aspen Resort in Aspen, Colorado. For additional information, please contact Jane Creel at [email protected]. Members of the press can contact Amy Smorodin at [email protected] for complimentary registration.
