March 26, 2009 – Washington, D.C.-The Technology Policy Institute (TPI) today announced Carly Fiorina’s appointment as Chair of the organization’s Board of Directors. Ms. Fiorina succeeds Ray Gifford, who was TPI’s founding board chairman and will remain on the board.

She has been a long-time champion of market-based innovation and consumer choice, and we are delighted that she has agreed to chair our board,” said Thomas Lenard, TPI’s President. “Carly’s mix of business, technology, and public policy experience on a global scale will add great value to TPI as we continue to grow.”

TPI is a Washington, D.C.-based think tank that focuses on the economics of innovation, technological change, and related regulation in the United States and around the world. The organization produces independent, rigorous research to advance knowledge and inform policymakers on major issues affecting information technology and communications policy.

Ms. Fiorina is also a best-selling author, sought-after speaker, business commentator, and strategic advisor. In her role as Chairman and CEO of Carly Fiorina Enterprises, she actively advocates for policies that support economic growth and entrepreneurial empowerment.

Ms. Fiorina served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Hewlett-Packard Company from 1999 to 2005. She led the reinvention of the legendary company, steering it through the dot-com bust, the worst technology recession in 25 years and the controversial merger with Compaq Computer, now acknowledged to be the most successful merger in high-tech history. Prior to joining Hewlett-Packard, she rose through the ranks at AT&T and Lucent Technologies over a twenty-year span, leading the IPO of Lucent and becoming President of its largest business.

Ms. Fiorina currently serves on a number of boards including the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Group, Inc.
