February 17, 2016 – Thomas Lenard, Technology Policy Institute President and Senior Fellow, urged the Federal Communications Commission today to expedite issuing a public notice on recent license modification applications in order to quickly make spectrum available for wireless broadband.

It the letter filed with the Commission, Lenard stated that Mobile Satellite Service spectrum can play an important role in increasing spectrum available for broadband, which is a crucial part of the FCC’s 2010 National Broadband Plan. “I have stated previously in comments to the Commission that, of the various options available, the spectrum held by Ligado Networks (formerly LightSquared) is low-hanging fruit,” he explained. “I therefore urge the Commission to take the necessary steps to be able to act on Ligado’s application expeditiously and move its spectrum to productive uses.”

The full text of the letter is available on the TPI website.
