Author and Virtual Reality Pioneer, Jaron Lanier, to Speak at Aspen Forum on August 19

Jaron Lanier, the computer scientist, author, and virtual reality pioneer will deliver a keynote address at the Technology Policy Institute’s Aspen Forum. Lanier has worked extensively in the tech sector and created startup companies acquired by Google, Adobe, Oracle, and Pfizer.

Lanier, who writes on high-technology business, the social impact of technology, Internet politics and other tech related topics, will speak during lunch on August 19, day two of the August 18-20 conference.

Lanier’s books, Ten Arguments for Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now, Who Owns the Future, and You Are Not a Gadget, were international bestsellers. His Dawn of the New Everything was named a best book of 2017 by several publications.

“Jaron Lanier is both a lover and critic of the technology sector,” said TPI President and Senior Fellow Scott Wallsten. “His insights are interesting and valuable to anyone who wants to hear all sides of tech policy arguments presented brilliantly.”

In 2018, Lanier was named one of the 25 most influential people in the previous 25 years of tech history by Wired. He’s also been named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time. He is currently the “octopus” (Office of the Chief Technology Officer Prime Unifying Scientist) at Microsoft.

This year’s Aspen Forum, held at the St. Regis Resort in Aspen, Colorado, includes numerous speakers and panels of experts on current and forward-looking issues. Additional keynotes, panel speakers and fireside chats will be announced soon.
